Welcome to the first issue of our e-newsletter

Dear all,

With these e-newsletters we would like to provide you with the latest project updates from RADAR-AD (Remote Assessment of Disease and Relapse – Alzheimer’s Disease). The newsletters will be sent to you every half-year and will cover our news over the past six months.

Like everyone else, the RADAR-AD consortium has been recalibrating to working under the barriers placed on us all by the COVID-19 pandemic over the past few months. However, we feel that the current situation has strengthened the argument for the integration of remote measurement technologies in the assessment and care of people living with dementia. The halting of clinical research by most institutions has provided the RADAR-AD consortium with a window of opportunity to finalise ethical approval for all RADAR-AD sites in preparation for when recruitment can commence. Moreover, it has allowed the consortium to publish the large body of work we have already undertaken in finalising clinical protocols, selecting remote measurement technologies for tiers 1, 2 and 3, data modelling and functional domain prioritisation. We would also like to acknowledge the invaluable contribution provided throughout these separate but interrelated workstreams by the RADAR-AD Patient Advisory Board.

The RADAR-AD annual meeting which was originally planned in March, was one of the first events to be affected by the COVID-19 crisis. The meeting was organised online, and our various work packages have been able to remain productive and collaborative through regular teleconferencing.

You will see from this newsletter how industrious the past 6 months have been and that COVID-19 is only a momentary pause in the momentum RADAR-AD was gaining. The clearly defined goals and strategies of RADAR-AD, paired with our belief in the project and the creativity and skill of our project members, have ensured that we will be ready to begin participant recruitment as soon as COVID-19 restrictions are eased across multiple sites.

Our next newsletter will follow in six months. Until then, you can find regular updates on project news and relevant events on our project website here, and check our latest publications here.

Until next time!

Dag Aarsland, King’s College London, Project Coordinator
Vaibhav Narayan, Janssen Pharmaceutica NV, Project Lead
